Co-Main Event Podcast Episode 75 (10/28/13)

New logo 42Lot of ground to cover during this week’s Co-Main Event Podcast. With Tito Ortiz’s “unexpected” neck injury forcing Bellator to scramble to re-book Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez on free TV last Friday, you might’ve thought this CME would double as a eulogy for the dearly departed fight promotion. Not so fast however, as episode 75 finds Ben and Chad discussing whether Bellator’s revamped free card actually puts it in a better position than its terrible PPV one. Aside from that, there’s Lyoto Machida’s big win over Mark Munoz to consider, and then some rampant speculation as to if the “Machida Era” is back on at middleweight. In between, they discuss Chad’s new job and benefit from cameo appearances from dudes like Mayhem Miller and Melvin Guillard, not to mention a few Gracies.

All that, plus MasterTweet Theatre, AYFKM and Just Sayin’ Stuff.

SOUNDS: This week’s music comes to us from our old friends Skunx, the hardcore punk band of listener Tommy Sundkvist. Turns out, they’ve changed their name to Down For Lyfe after discovering there was already a Polish white power band called Skunx. So that seems like a good choice. You can find their new EP for sale at reasonable price ($1.58 American) right here.

Travis Bickle wrote in? How funny, because that’s my Halloween costume. Love me some Taxi Driver.

    1. Chad Dundas says:

Indeed, the fictional Mr. Bickle is one of our regular emailers. I assume he uses this nom de plume because he is a person of some great import who must not be recognized.

      1. danno says:

congratulations on the new job Chad. And keep the Bellator segments coming. Every time a round is devoted to bellator it ends up being the best part of the podcast, in my opinion.

  2. Adrian Sol says:

Awww, c’mon Skunx. You’re a Swedish hardcore band, and as such, “Down For Leif” is the only way to go. You know this.

I don’t know if Chad was referencing Starkweather from Philadelphia, but those guys were definitely not a Nazi band. Just very, very angry white dudes (and one dudette).

  3. Alex says:

YES! After 10 years of CME I guessed “War Machine” right! I still dont really know who that guy is, though…

  4. Rcd says:

I’d be interested in the co-hosts’ thoughts on the story that Bellator had 205 pound champ Attila Veigh training in order to be ready as a backup for the interim title fight between ‘King Mo’ and Emmanuel Newton… I figured I’d hear about that in AYFKM.

    1. B. mills says:

Right?! I thought Veigh “couldn’t” fight. If so, why was he training? Would he have fought for an interim title even though he’s the champ? Would he have fought rampage while 2 other dudes fought for an interim title? What the fuck Bellator? Why is it everything that Bellator says or does stinks of bullshit?
I guess, what I’m trying to say is, fuck you Bellator.
