Co-Main Event Podcast Episode 68 (9/10/13)

New logo 42Just because there is no major MMA show this week doesn’t mean the Co-Main Event Podcast won’t have more than enough fight-related BS to BS about during episode 68. For starters, Ben and Chad chop it up over Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks bickering about who exactly is (or is not) going to conduct the independent drug testing for their UFC 167 fight and who is (or is not) going to pay for it. In addition, there’s this new season of The Ultimate Fighter. which debuted to slumping ratings amid a short spate of slumping UFC ratings on Fox Sports 1. Also, Bellator opened its Fall season with an entertaining scrap for the middleweight title. Not that you would notice in the middle of that company’s ongoing PR nightmare.

All that, plus MasterTweet Theatre, AYFKM and Just Sayin’ Stuff.

Sounds: This week’s music comes to us courtesy of podcast listener Til Breidenbach and his straightedge hardcore band Luca Brasi. If you like the cut of their particular jib, you can find more here.

Direct downloaders can get set adrift on memory bliss right here.

Hey, Ben! Do you wanna be a fucking writer?! Real writers don’t care about proper notice, possible conflicts of interest or number pieces ordered. They just bring their coffee over to their desk, open up the lid of their laptops and start fucking writing. Writing ain’t for everybody. If you can’t hack it for UFC Magazine, maybe this shit ain’t for you. Amirite Chad and Brad??!

    1. D Dubz says:

Joakim, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this page is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

      1. Joakim Kalantari says:

        A simple “no” would’ve been enough…

  2. Jim says:

    Great show.
The direct download link is missing for this one.

  3. Ruben says:

Oh noes! No direct link. I couldn’t download it on my phone and listen it on the way to work. Worst Tuesday of the week by far.

  11. Phil says:

The “Direct Download” link is not present. I suspect PM Dawn ate it.

  12. Hank says:

So for next time if the download link is missing,

    1) this instruction if for Chrome only
    2) Either hit F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I to open Developers Tool window
    3) Click on the network tab
    4) Start playing the episode
    5) A direct path to the mp3 file should now appear in your network traffic list
    6) Clicking on the mp3 file will open the detail panel to the exact url to the mp3 file which you can now directly download from (by going to the page and right-click and download as usual, in this case, just go to “http://traffic.libsyn.com/comainevent/68_master.mp3”)

I don’t think the line we draw on PED use is arbitrary at all. If it has negative side effects and a high potential for abuse then it should be illegal. If consuming large amounts of protein and creatine made your balls shrivel, depleted your sperm count, gave you man boobs and a receding hairline, and increased your risk of prostate cancer then we would probably ban protein and creatine too. While therapies like TRT and EPO may be great when taken in normal doses by people who actually need them to function normally, they can be easily abused by athletes looking for an edge, leading to life threatening complications. And the thing about TRT is that without year round random drug testing it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between use and abuse. If we legalized PEDs, the tournament nature of sports would eventually weed out all those who are not willing to use PEDs. I don’t think that’s something we should force on athletes, regardless of whether they play violent sports or not.

    1. danno says:

      Also, something something something…direct download.

    2. Hank says:

I used to be just indifferent about Johny Hendricks, but now given how obnoxious he’s been acting especially him being the one refusing the test, I look forward to GSP actually giving him the worst beating of his life!

      1. sean says:

Hank are u insane. I would not want to be involved in any type of testing where the other person involved has any type of personal relationship with the company. GSP also could of accepted the WADA testing. Plus GSP’s involvement with pimpled up Rory. Personally I like to thing GSP is clean but look at Hendricks situation.

  14. Brigsy says:

I am guessing the UFC waited until this podcast dropped to announce Penn vs Edgar. Haaaaaaa. Standard.

    1. Hank says:

NO SHIT! Thanks for the breaking news! How did I manage to miss that! I look forward to listening about this on the next installment of the CME, I do not, however, look forward to watch BJ Penn getting his ass handed to him by Edgar – again.
