Co-Main Event Podcast Episode 67 (9/3/13)

New logo 42The first Co-Main Event Podcast of the Anthony Pettis Era went down in style, with custom-made suits and Corn Nuts for everybody. Nah, not really. Since episode 67 was recorded on Labor Day, Ben and Chad did this one in board shorts and trucker hats, with a couple of Olympias coozie’d-up at the ready. Fine, that’s not exactly true either, but it is a verifiable fact that Chad’s daughter screamed and cried throughout the whole show, so if you can hear what sounds like a raccoon trying to free itself from a spring-loaded leg trap in the background, that’s just her. Seriously, no animals were harmed during the recording of this podcast, unless you count reason and good taste as living, breathing things. The guys break down Pettis’ win over Benson Henderson at UFC 164, talk about Frank Mir’s odd first person account of his knockout loss to Josh Barnett and preview Wednesday’s Fight Night 28 card. At least, the fights with people they’ve heard of before.

All that, plus AYFKM, Tips for the Well-Rounded Fight Fan and Just Sayin’ Stuff.

Sounds: This week’s music comes from podcast listener Sean Madigan and his band Naked Women’s Street Fighting League. If you like their stuff, check them out here.

  1. In Frank Mir’s defense, his tactic for dealing with Josh Barnett’s knees wasn’t any less ridiculous than tips for surviving a grizzly bear attack…in fact, it was pretty much the same:

“If the animal makes contact, curl up into a ball on your side, or lie flat on your stomach.” (from PBS “What to Do if You Encounter a Bear”)

Maybe Mir was waiting for the Warmaster to start sniffing him and then move on?

  2. Did I miss the podcast where you guys talked about how good the Wednesday Fight Night was? Don’t get me wrong I loved this episode, but can Carlos Condit get some love on the CME? Are you fuckin’ kiddin’ me? Just sayin’.

    • Much less significant fight compared to the commencement of the Pettis Era, if you ask me, I think they spent too little time talking about how awesome Anthony Pettis AKA The Second Coming Of mma was…

  3. Joakim Kalantari says:

The headline should read: “Fowlkes continues backtracking on previous statements”
Mir Clearly had a case for his protest on the grounds of the WTFIYPR

  4. Haven’t listened to it yet but BOOOOO ahead of time. The people want Master Tweet Theater! The people want it every week. And bigger. And longer. And with more Michael Bisping impressions.

  5. I know you guys are language and literary snobs, so please tell Chad that “irregardless” is not a real word, and that he should instead use either “irrespective” or “regardless.”

    • Who’s the snob now?

    • I was just getting on here to write this exact comment. Chad isn’t allowed to have all of these rules about grammar and language and still get to use a word like “irregardless.” Furthermore, I’m disappointed that a red squiggly line doesn’t show up under “irregardless” when I type this. For shame, Google Chrome.

      • I’m generally only a stickler when it comes to the written word, which is sacred. When two guys are just talking, I’m up for more of a no holds barred approach.

Also, no squiggly line appears under the word irregardless because irregardless is, in fact, a word.

        • I mean, technically it’s a word because Merriam-Webster decided enough people had been using it for long enough. But we’re probably only a year or so away from them acknowledging that twerk is a word as well.

          • “twerk” is already on Wikipedia which is way more relevant than good ol’ Merriam-Webster nowadays anyways…
