Co-Main Event Podcast Episode 58 (7/2/13)

New logo 58With America set to turn 237 years old this week (or 229 years young, for you Treaty of Paris types) the Co-Main Event Podcast celebrated the only way it knows how: By recording the show early so Ben and Chad could spend the rest of the week standing around shirtless at barbecues drinking beer and shouting stuff like “Oh yeah? Let me tell YOU something …,” at people they only sort of know. So, yay America. With UFC 162 coming up on Saturday, it goes without saying that the guys have serious MMA business to attend to as well. This week’s topics include Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva as the most talked about UFC main event in some time, that awesome behind-the-scenes video of War MMA that we all watched and numerous past and present fighters criticizing the UFC’s pay scale.

All that, plus AYFKM and Just Sayin’ Stuff. It’s nearly Independence Day, which means Sir Nigel Longstock has retreated to Mother England to stew on the shame of it all, but we hope he’ll return next week to shock and disturb us with his Michael Bisping impression.

Sounds: This week’s music comes from podcast listener Jeremy Cole and his band Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun. More of their music can be found at their website and Facebook page. You can also follow them on Twitter.

Thanks for the early release, what a pleasant surprise! This totally made my day, thanks guys!

  2. Murder Donkey says:

The CME pod is the only MMA podcast i bother with. All the others make me sad and angry. CME 4 life!

    1. SuperstarPecanbar says:

I totally agree. The jovial trumpets of the hour which shall not be mentioned instantly induces a full body cringe.

      1. Hank says:

Yeah… these guys are pretty great, I’ve been searching for a good mma podcast ever since The Lights Out Show shut their doors over 2 years ago, and Ben and Chad are even more insightful since their are actual “professionals” in the sport. There are some other honorable mentions out there, go check out these other guys when you have a chance:

The Great Debate – hosted by “professional” mma journalists as well:

MMA Dude Bro – hosted by a couple of fight fans, refreshing views:

Between Rounds – very passionate mma radio dudes:

But make no mistakes, none one holds a candle to the excellent broadcasting standard of the CME.

I definitely wouldn’t waste my time with Sherdog or MMA Junkie Radio, they are utter jokes that are detrimental to your brain cells…

In regard to the Listener Mail for this week, this is when the groom calls in a favor from the best man. Have him procure a laptop, set it up in a secluded corner somewhere, and once the main event is about to being he asks the new bride if he may borrow the groom for a few minutes. Step out, enjoy the fight, back before anyone noticed you were gone.

    1. Hank says:

Hmm… not a bad idea, however, it might be hard to enlist a trustworthy enough accomplice to pull off a heist of this magnitude…

  5. RobertSatellite says:

In my opinion, this week’s music is the best in the history of the show. Reminds me of Metric. Damn good stuff!

    1. Hank says:

Hmm… I don’t know about that, I really miss the original scores of the show to be honest, hope they can bring it back at some point.
